God Put Me on the Wrong Bus
Navigating UGA’s God-awful bus system while simultaneously reflecting in gratitude with the Lord’s forgiveness and opportunities!
As you can probably assume by the title, the day I have had has been one of those “trials and/or tribulations” they speak about in the bible. This morning I got up, made my tea, did my hair, make-up, and got dressed with plenty of time to spare. Today was going to be a great day. Still is, but you know, my Senior at University of Georgia brain hopped on the east campus bus, when in all honesty, I didn’t major in a science or liberal art, so I was inevitably headed to the wrong place.
The funniest part of all of this, is I somehow knew this would go wrong and in true expectations, still I didn’t realize there was an issue until I passed by my apartment. Wait… Wasn’t I just here?! God help me.
Long story short, I missed my first class, thankfully it is still add/drop week, but it was obviously quite infuriating and annoying. It definitely tested my patience and pride, and I didn’t fully accept it until I got half way through the second route, and just started to walk to my second class.
My thoughts went as follows:
“I didn’t do anything wrong” – my pride coming out
“This stupid app messed me up” – blame placing
“I hope I didn’t miss anything” – fear creeping in
After my half hour walk, beautiful weather, accompanied by thoughts of a future iced latte and worship music, I was met with undeniable gratitude with the Lord.
How blessed am I to be walking to my Marketing classes at the University of Georgia?
How blessed am I to be breathing fresh air and walking on my own working two legs?
How blessed am I to have someone to text or call for moral support as I navigate this?
I had to stop in my spiral and reflect on the immense amount of opportunities, joys, and positive things I don’t even possess but have been specifically gifted to me by my creator.
All of a sudden my pride was fought:
I did do something wrong, I didn’t read the wording on the front side of the bus.
But it’s okay to be wrong; I am still learning!
My blame-giving was replaced with gaining knowledge of a better app, and more information on how to better navigate this area and public transportation.
I walked into my second class and was greeted by a familiar face I had recognized from my first day on Tuesday.
Samantha says, “Hey again!” and I sit down, slightly defeated but refusing to give up. We got talking and I found out she was also in the class that I had previously missed. I explained my reason for absence and she kindly invited me into her group for the group project decisions that were made today while I was on the other side of campus on a random bus.
How blessed am I to have someone with her circumstances get placed in the seat beside me?
(I don’t think it is a coincidence)
I daresay that God saw my hope, and decided to give me grace and confirm that I have every reason to remain hopeful as I rest in him and realize that I cannot do this alone.
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”
Romans 8:28
